Today nearly one fifth of children worldwide are caught up in conflict - more than double what it was 30 years ago.
For too long, the world has failed to protect its children. Political leaders have shrunk from the world stage and haven’t put the needs and rights of our children first.
The UK Government looms large in the international arena, with seats at some of the world’s most powerful tables. This means they have a responsibility to to fight for the needs and rights of children.
UK leadership has saved lives in the past. From helping draft the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to founding the UN, to committing – in law – to protect spending on life-saving aid.
It is time for the UK to show that kind of leadership again. We know that, ultimately, the Government answers to the people of the UK. It is our voices, raised alongside children everywhere, that can convince the UK Government to stand up for children in conflict.
Through words and deeds, the UK must send the message to the world: enough is enough. The war on children must end.
